Scheel graduated from South Dakota State University with a bachelor’s degree in construction management. He started his career in civil construction at Simon Contractors in Rapid City, South Dakota. After six years as an Estimator/Project Manager bidding and managing projects in asphalt, concrete, grading and utility work, he made the move to vertical construction. He started working for Hospitality Builders as a superintendent. After completing one hotel and starting another, he was promoted to Project Manager. After building multiple hotels, mainly in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area, he and his wife decided to move to Fargo, while his wife Megan was pregnant with their first child. His family has since grown to two boys, along with a chocolate lab and a Weimaraner.
